Inveni Capital invests in miacom Diagnostics

Düsseldorf and Munich, Germany - April 17, 2009 - Inveni Capital announced today an investment in miacom Diagnostics GmbH, a Düsseldorf, Germany, based company, which develops diagnostic products. Inveni was the sole investor in the financing round.

miacom Diagnostics GmbH, founded in 2006, has developed a novel platform technology for a rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases, that is based on the molecular diagnostic method “Fluorescence in situ hybridization” (FISH). The widespread utilization of the original FISH technology was inhibited due to limited number of suitable detection probes and the technical complexity of the protocol. To overcome these limitations, the Company introduced multiple, highly innovative enhancements to the original FISH technology, which will make the technology available to the expanding diagnostic market for the first time.

On base of the new platform technology, the Company is developing diagnostic kits for the identification of pathogens from stool, sputum and blood cultures. The latter has been successfully tested in a clinical study on over 200 patient samples. The funds raised in the financing round will be used to finalize development and to finance the market launch of miacom’s product line, expected within a year.

Inveni Capital is a Finnish-German life science venture fund. Inveni extends hands-on entrepreneurial experience to guide early-stage companies to rapid commercial success.
