Inveni Capital invests in Medtentia
Munich, Germany and Helsinki, Finland - August 25, 2008- Inveni Capital announced today an investment in Medtentia AB, a Swedish/Finnish medtech company. Inveni Capital was the lead investor in the financing round. Industrifonden, Sweden, an existing investor in the company, also participated in the financing round.
Medtentia AB, a Swedish/Finnish medtech company, was established in 2002. Medtentia is developing novel mitral valve repair products based on the company’s proprietary helix concept. Medtentia’s mitral valve repair products, including a novel annuloplasty ring, have the potential to significantly reduce the invasiveness, operation time and morbidity currently associated with mitral valve repair operations.
Medtentia has successfully completed most of the pre-clinical and early clinical tests needed for regulatory approval and expects to receive CE label for its mitral valve repair system in 2010. The funds raised will be used to complete the remaining pre-clinical and clinical studies and to bring the company’s first products to market.
In connection with the investment, Professor Hans-Reinhard Zerkowski was appointed as a Member of Board of Directors of Medtentia. Professor Zerkowski is an internationally renowned cardiothoracic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in the management of hospitals, research groups, guideline committees, and professional associations. He has, among others, held positions as professor at the Universities of Basel (Switzerland) and Halle (Germany) and as chairman of the department of surgery of the University Hospital of Basel.
Inveni Capital is a Finnish-German life science venture fund. Inveni extends hands-on entrepreneurial experience to guide early-stage companies to commercial success.
